West Ham ace Declan Rice says he needs to score more goals

West Ham ace Declan Rice admitted that he needs to score more goals if he is to become a complete midfielder, when speaking exclusively to WHUFC.com.

The 21-year-old has arguably been the Hammers’ best player over the past two years or so.

He is West Ham’s Mr consistent. The England international always gives 100 per cent, never shirks a tackle, and is a constant driving force for the Hammers in the middle of the park.

Rice is still under contract with the east London outfit until the summer of 2024. But worrying reports emerged today from Sky Sports, suggesting that Chelsea could make a move for the youngster when the summer transfer window opens.

Let’s just hope that we avoid relegation and the 21-year-old remains with West Ham next season.

If the Hammers ace continues to improve, he will surely go on to become a truly elite player.

Rice spoke exclusively to WHUFC.com, and shared what he needs to do if he is to reach the very top:

“One hundred per cent. Maybe sometimes I am too nice and pass the ball off on the edge of the box when I should have a shot myself. In training, I do it all the time and when I get into game situations I do it a bit different but if you don’t shoot you don’t score. It’s been tough this year, but I definitely need to add more goals and get around the edge of the opposition box a bit more and get shots off. “

The England international has scored just two goals in 100 games (Transfermarkt), and he will be the first to admit that that’s not good enough.

If Rice does add some goals to his game, he could be truly world class. He is still very young, however, and shouldn’t expect too much of himself too soon.

If the 21-year-old continues to evolve and improve, he will undoubtedly reach the highest level in the game.
