West Ham United duo Said Benrahma and Michail Antonio have been recognised for their excellent start to the season by being nominated for the Premier League’s player of the month award.

Antonio is the Prem’s top scorer with four goals in his first three games and he has also registered three assists.

Benrahma has impressed too bagging two goals and two assists as West Ham secured two wins and a draw to sit second in the fledgling table going into the international break.

West Ham duo shortlisted for Prem gong

The Hammers duo are shortlisted alongside Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso, Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier, Everton winger Demarai Gray and Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.

But it will be nothing short of a farce if Antonio does not win the award.

Not only does he blow everyone else out of the water with his stats, the striker’s performances make West Ham tick. His hard graft for the team is not measured by the key stats but that too makes him the standout candidate.

Shortlist should only be one but brace yourselves for the usual Prem farce

West Ham’s star man deserves the recognition but as Hammers fans will attest, there is often a “big six” bias with these awards.

It will be interesting to see how this one pans out given Antonio is so clearly the obvious and unrivalled choice.

If it is not Antonio then it sums up the modern day bias towards a handful of clubs in the Premier League.

Throw in the fact Antonio has broken West Ham’s Premier League goal scoring record in those games while also bringing up a major milestone by bagging his 50th then surely there is no other choice.

hammers fans can make their votes count

Don’t be surprised, though, if Spurs defender Eric Dier wins it just because Tottenham are top of the league.

West Ham fans can make their votes count to ensure the right outcome.

Voting is open now and closes at 11am on Monday 6 September.

The winner will be announced on Friday 10 September at 11am.

In other news, ‘I’m disappointed in him’ Neville criticises Lingard for not joining West Ham.

And West Ham end window top four spenders but many fans remain GSBOUT.
