Flynn Downes absolutely has to start for West Ham United against Newcastle United this evening, if we are to get a positive result.
The Hammers head to St James’ Park to take on Newcastle in the 17:30 Premier League kick-off today.

The game is an absolutely vital one for both teams, but for very different reasons indeed!

Newcastle need a win to keep up the pace for a top four finish whilst West Ham desperately need a result in order to pull away from the relegation zone.
And Downes is someone who I believe will help us a get a result on Tyneside. David Moyes brought the 24-year-old to the London Stadium from Swansea City in the summer transfer window for around £14 million (Wales Online).
He has had to bide his time though, when it comes to Premier League action, and Moyes has to change all that today…
David Moyes must make Flynn Downes decision for Newcastle vs West Ham
Moyes recently suggested that Downes needs to be patient before playing regularly for West Ham.
I just don’t get this mindset whatsoever. He is 24, not 19! And every single time he has played for the Hammers, he has really impressed.
It almost seems as though Moyes is ‘easing him into action’ because that’s what the rulebook said you had to do with new signings 20 years ago!
The Scot needs to get out of that mindset, and quick. Downes is a superb footballer, and he makes us so much better as a team when he starts.
The ex-Swansea ace is an archetypal defensive midfielder. He is absolutely brilliant at breaking up play and quickly moving the ball on – something that enables us to get up the pitch so much faster in transition.
He is tenacious, aggressive and has a really impressive engine on him. The midfielder is perfectly built for the modern game, but he’s far from a physical one-trick pony.
Downes is a very good passer of the football and possesses impressive technical ability.
The former Swansea City ace has energy in abundance and has all the attributes that West Ham are currently lacking in the middle of the park.

If Downes starts for West Ham against Newcastle tonight, slotted in next to Declan Rice and just behind Lucas Paqueta, I believe we will have a very good chance of getting something from the game.
It will enable West Ham to keep the ball better in the middle of the park against a side that operates arguably the most aggressive press in the Premier League.
The Hammers have to be brave in possession today, if we are to have any chance of winning the game, and Flynn Downes will be vital to that.
Hopefully David Moyes is thinking along the same lines.
