When writing a column for the Mirror, Stan Collymore likened West Ham’s current situation to Liverpool’s way back in 2010.

The Hammers owners have received massive amounts of criticism from the club’s fans recently.

And Collymore suggested in the Mirror that David Gold and David Sullivan have failed to deliver at West Ham.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are in absolutely brilliant shape, both on and off the pitch.

West Ham could learn from Liverpool’s progress

It wasn’t always like that, however. In fact, 10 years ago, the Reds fans were totally disillusioned with how the club was being run by Tom Hicks and George Gillett, before the American duo were forced out of the club following legal battle with John Henry in 2010.

And Collymore highlighted the similarities between West Ham’s current situation and Liverpool’s 10 years ago, when writing a column for the Mirror:

“West Ham’s owners deserve the criticism coming their way because they have been given every building block needed for success but haven’t delivered. The stadium, Premier League money and London — everything has been in their favour. The trio did okay at Birmingham and have done okay at West Ham. But this isn’t 30 years ago when the football scene was a sea of average. You have to be good, and especially with their resources at their disposal. It feels like the last days of Tom Hicks and George Gillett at Liverpool. It’s time to sell up and for West Ham to move forward.”

The way in which Liverpool have rebuilt under new ownership and guidance should serve as inspiration to the West Ham fans.

Obviously the Merseyside outfit had a better infrastructure than the east London club, but their strides over the past decade have still been quite incredible.

If Sullivan and Gold sell up, and someone who has genuine ambition buys West Ham, there is no telling what they could achieve.

The Hammers are a sleeping giant that is currently being held back by their owners. Much like Liverpool were in 2010, albeit on a slightly different scale.
