‘Sorry’: West Ham’s Karren Brady offers her take on Coronavirus-hit Premier League season

West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady suggested that the season should be cancelled and thus rendered null and void, when writing her regular column for the Sun.

The Hammers are in real trouble this season. They are currently sitting in 16th spot in the Premier League table.

So it is no surprise that Brady is calling for the season to be cancelled.

In truth, however, that is an unrealistic suggestion. Surely the best case scenario is for the Premier League to be delayed until it is deemed safe to play again..whenever that is. Even if the start of next season has to be delayed, then so be it.

It might not be in West Ham’s best interest to do that, but it would be the fairest way to handle the situation.

Brady obviously disagrees with that, however.

She explained how the Premier League season should be cancelled as a result of the pandemic, when writing her column for the Sun:

“Sorry Liverpool but the Premier League has to be declared null and void if players can’t play again. The thought that everyone will be in and out of isolation and fit to play on April 4 seems so unlikely. So what if the league cannot be finished? The only fair and reasonable thing to do is declare the whole season null and void. A huge blow to Liverpool who might be robbed of their first title in 30 years. This will be discussed between the PL and the clubs next week at an emergency meeting.”

Obviously many fans will be totally against Brady’s suggestion. Especially Liverpool fans.

Nobody knows what the final decision from the Premier League will be. But one thing seems certain – the April 3rd date pencilled in for a return to action is extremely optimistic to say the least.

The government has warned that we are still nowhere near the peak of the coronavirus. Things could be set to get worse.

And as football fans we must remember that peoples’ health is far more important than the game that we love.
