West Ham United were due to play Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend.
The game was postponed due to Liverpool’s involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup.
The decision was taken to ease Liverpool’s fixture congestion as Jurgen Klopp’s side face nine games in four weeks.
But it means Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham will have gone nearly two weeks without playing before their Boxing Day trip to face Crystal Palace.
If ever there was a time to play them…
A trip to Anfield is daunting for any team.
But if ever there was a time to play Liverpool it would have been during their busiest month of the season. Especially considering West Ham would have gone into the game off the back of a morale-boosting win over Southampton last time out.
Liverpool played a side full of youngsters in the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Aston Villa in midweek while the first team travelled to Qatar for the much-maligned FIFA tournament. The Reds face Flamengo in the final on Saturday.
Facing the prospect of a barren weekend before Christmas, many West Ham fans are questioning why Liverpool were not forced to juggle their expensively assembled squad to fulfil the Premier League clash.
West Ham fans question Liverpool postponement
Well known West Ham fan Baz Cox took to Twitter to pose the question and it started quite the debate.
“I’m confused here, If Liverpool could field a weakened team like they did last night, why couldn’t they against us in the league the weekend?” Baz said on Twitter.
“What’s the ruling that stops that from happening? I’ve no idea what or why.”
