Despite a summer of intense spending, central midfield is one of the areas in which Manuel Pellegrini finds himself short with just days of the transfer window remaining.

However, ahead of that clash with Liverpool on the opening weekend of the season, the Mirror report that the former Manchester City boss has launched a bid for Colombian international midfielder Carlos Sanchez.

The Aston Villa flop endured a poor World Cup out in Russia this summer, getting sent off two minutes into his country’s opening match, against Japan, for deliberate handball and putting in a petulant performance against England in the last 16, lucky to escape a red card and giving away the penalty that allowed Harry Kane to open the scoring.

That all adds together to make the holding midfielder an underwhelming target in the eyes of Hammers fans and a limp way to round off a transfer window which has brought decisiveness, direction and quality to the London Stadium.

The supporters are not impressed at all, especially by the latest update that Sanchez is ‘expected to join’ the club before Thursday’s deadline, and we’ve collated some of the reaction…
