Gary Neville praised West Ham trio Sebastien Haller, Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini, when speaking to Sky Sports, but suggested that none of them are at the level required to play for a truly top side.
Haller, 25, joined the Hammers from Eintracht Frankfurt in July for around £45 million (BBC Sport). Anderson, 26, was signed by Manuel Pellegrini from Lazio for £41.5 million in the summer of 2018 (BBC Sport). Lanzini, meanwhile, originally joined West Ham on loan in the summer of 2015. He then made his move a permanent one the following season for around £10.8 million (The Express).
All three have really impressed for the east London outfit. And they are expected to help their side make a real push for the top six this season.
Neville admitted that he’s a fan of the West Ham trio.
He told Sky Sports that they are not good enough to play at the very highest level, however:
“You look at Felipe Anderson, Manuel Lanzini and Sebastien Haller and you can feel that the atmosphere will be hostile for Man United on Sunday. The reason those players are at West Ham is because they have quality, but they can’t play at the highest level. However, they can play in those one-off games – they can play in moments in matches, and that makes West Ham really dangerous against Man United.”
Neville’s words could backfire…
The former Manchester United right-back’s words will surely make the trio even more up for Sunday’s visit of the Red Devils.
Despite the fact that the Sky Sports pundit praised Anderson, Haller and Lanzini, his suggestion that they are not good enough to play at the very highest level will undoubtedly irk them.
And all three of them will be desperate to show Neville what they are capable of on Sunday.
