David Sullivan has endured plenty of criticism from West Ham fans during his time in charge of the club.

The 71-year-old, whose wealth is estimated to be around £1.15 billion (Sunday Times Rich List), took over the Hammers with David Gold way back in 2010.

Aside from one good season in the 2015/16 campaign, however, West Ham haven’t really made any progress.

The Hammers are currently embroiled in a real relegation battle. And many West Ham fans are pointing the finger of blame at Sullivan for the club’s current plight.

They are angry at Sullivan sanctioning the sales of so many strikers last summer, and bringing in just two forwards as replacements. They are upset at being told lie after lie. And the cherry on the cake has been the unsuccessful move from Upton Park to the London Stadium.

Sky Sports have offered a different take on the 71-year-old, however.

They suggest that most of his wealth comes from property, and running a football club is not an easy way to make money. Sky Sports also highlight how Sullivan chooses to live in the UK and pays his taxes here.

Is Sullivan being treated unfairly?

They suggest that the 71-year-old, along with Gold, has put more than £100m into the club and expect to put in at least another £30m this summer.

It is also highlighted by Sky Sports how the duo have not taken anything out of the club, other than interest on loans.

West Ham have a net spend of £214 million over the past four years (Sky Sports).

Sky round up their take on the situation by suggesting that if Sullivan was truly interested in just making money, he would have bought more property, rather than a football club.

It’s certainly food for thought.
