West Ham ace Sebastien Haller spoke exclusively to the club’s official website and suggested that it is a lot of fun to play alongside Michail Antonio.
The Hammers earned a vital three points away at Southampton on Saturday. And it was no coincidence that they won just their second game in 11 Premier League outings.
Manuel Pellegrini bowed to fan pressure, playing Haller and Antonio up front together in a 4-4-2.
And the Frenchman and the Englishman struck up a formidable partnership.
Haller, 25, was signed for £45 million from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer. But he has struggled to establish himself at the London Stadium.
He had scored just one goal in 13 appearances before the Southampton game. But with Antonio as his partner, the Frenchman looked like a totally different player.
And Haller eluded to that fact when speaking exclusively to WHUFC.com:
“I think today was a great partnership, especially as we tried to use both of our qualities and I think the team understood it. It worked and it was fun to play with Michail. We created a lot of chances thanks to him, so I’m just happy for this.”
West Ham now have nine days off until they play again. They head to Crystal Palace on Boxing Day, and now have a very clear blueprint for success.
Antonio and Haller together will cause defences all sorts of problems every time they play together.
It’s just a shame that Pellegrini has waited this long to pair the duo together.
