West Ham allegedly wanted to sign Wissam Ben Yedder from Sevilla in the summer of 2019.

The 29-year-old ended moving to Monaco for around £34 million, however (Bleacher Report).

The Hammers ended up signing Sebastien Haller instead for £45 million from Eintracht Frankfurt (BBC).

The 25-year-old has really struggled to establish himself in the Premier League, however, with just six goals in 26 appearances in all competitions to his name (Transfermarkt).

And how different things could have been for West Ham this season, had they signed Ben Yedder instead.

The Frenchman has been absolutely on fire fire in Ligue 1 this season.

In 23 league games for Monaco, Ben Yedder has racked up 16 goals and seven assists (Transfermarkt).

In fact he is outperforming Paris Saint-Germain’s global superstar Kylian Mbappe. The 21-year-old has 16 goals and six assists to his name in Ligue 1 this season.

There is still a long way to go this season, of course. If Ben Yedder goes on to lead the goalscoring charts in Ligue 1, however, ahead of Mbappe, it will be a huge achievement for the 29-year-old.

Especially considering the fact that he is playing for a far inferior team than Mbappe is.

The one thing against the Monaco ace is his age. It could be argued that he still would have represented great value for West Ham last summer for £34 million, however.

And the Hammers owners might just be regretting their decision not to push through and sign Ben Yedder last summer.
