According to a report from Football.London, West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere is currently training with the under-23’s.
The 28-year-old joined the Hammers in the summer of 2018 on a free transfer.
Many fans questioned the signing at the time, especially considering the fact that he was handed a £100,000 per week three year deal (Spotrac).
And they have been proven right.
Wilshere has made just 16 appearances for West Ham. And he hasn’t been seen in the first-team since October last year.
Injuries continue to hinder the former England international’s progress. But he is now fit enough to train.
Football.London claims that the 28-year-old is training with the under-23’s, however.
Perhaps this is just a precaution to help ease him back from injury.
On his day, Wilshere was a truly exceptional talent. And it is so sad how injuries have stolen what could have been a wonderful career from the midfielder.
Who knows? Perhaps he will return to action fully fit and more robust than he has been before. That is highly unlikely, however.
Since the start of the 2014/15 Premier League season, Wilshere has made just 78 Premier League appearances (Transfermarkt). And that quite simply isn’t good enough.
Is it too late for Wilshere to reach his very best form once again? Maybe. But one thing’s for sure. The 28-year-old will be desperate to prove that he still has what it takes to make an impact at West Ham.
Hammers fans won’t be holding out much hope, however.
