According to a report from the Mirror, the West Ham board privately viewed Michail Antonio’s Christmas Day car crash whilst dressed as a snowman as an example of the lack of discipline under Manuel Pellegrini.
The Hammers owners axed the Chilean on Saturday night after their 2-1 home defeat to a second-string Leicester City side.
West Ham are currently sitting in 17th spot in the Premier League table, just one point clear of the drop zone.
And the club’s owners have called upon David Moyes to rescue their current situation.
That really doesn’t fill Hammers fans with much hope.
The Scot should at least make West Ham more organised as a team. And he will undoubtedly instil some much-needed discipline.
Pellegrini was far from a disciplinarian. And the Mirror claims that Antonio’s car crash on Christmas day was viewed as a prime example of this by David Sullivan and David Gold.
Now, whilst that does seem to be a little harsh to say the very least, there was undoubtedly a problem at the London Stadium with regards to player discipline.
Pellegrini lacked any kind of passion either on the touchline or in his pre and post-match interviews.
It was as if the West Ham players were being given an easy ride by the Chilean. And that clearly translated onto the pitch.
At the very least, that will change under Moyes’s stewardship. The Scot is renowned for being a hard taskmaster. And that might be just what the Hammers players need at the moment.
