According to a report from Claret and Hugh, West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini is keen to sign a left-sided centre-back during the January transfer window.
The Chilean has opted to partner left-footed Angelo Ogbonna with right-footed Issa Diop for the past seven consecutive Premier League games.
The Hammers have Fabian Balbuena and the currently injured Winston Reid as cover.
They also have Goncalo Cardoso, but he is only 18, and has a long way to go before he is ready for regular first-team action.
And Claret and Hugh claims that West Ham will be targeting the signing of a left-footed centre-back in January.
They suggest that the east London outfit could be on the look-out for a loan deal with an option to buy in the summer.
Quite who they are targeting, however, remains unclear.
There are plenty of options out there for West Ham.
Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake would be a great addition, albeit a very expensive one. Manchester United’s Marcos Rojo could be available, whilst Schalke’s Matija Nastasić is another option.
Bringing in a left-footed defender will add real competition to the Hammers’ back-line, and will be a really good thing for their hopes of challenging for trophies over the course of the next few years.
