According to a report from Claret and Hugh, West Ham owners David Sullivan and David Gold have decided to take a more hands-on approach to transfers in the future.
Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini has made 16 signings since he took over at the London Stadium in the summer of 2018.
There have been some successes.
But only a handful of those have proven to be hits in east London.
There have been a number of really poor signings, including the likes of Lucas Perez, Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez.
The worst one of the lot, however, has been Roberto.
The Spanish stopper’s calamitous performances have cost West Ham dearly over the past six weeks.
And Claret and Hugh claims that the Hammers board are prepared to make a move to prevent further disasters in the transfer market by having the final say on who Pellegrini brings into the club.
It’s not just Pellegrini who is under scrutiny. Director of Football Mario Husillos must also be held accountable for some of the signings. Roberto, for instance, was brought to the club on the back of a recommendation from the Argentine.
Sullivan and Gold now seem to be putting new measures in place to prevent any more horror signings at West Ham, however.
Whether that strategy works though, remains to be seen.
Pellegrini and Husillos will surely not be too happy if the club’s owners have the final say on transfers.
The Chilean has always been someone who likes total control of his team. And that might now be taken out of his hands.
