Gunners boss Mikel Arteta seems intent on beefing up his defensive midfield ranks. The north London outfit have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid ace Thomas Partey (Bleacher Report).

But it seems as though that is proving to be a tricky one to get done.

So it would be no surprise if Arsenal are now indeed in for Rice.

David Moyes will surely resist any overtures for someone who is arguably his best player, however.

The Standard claims that the Hammers could sell Rice, however, for around £70 million.

And considering the current climate, that might make it very difficult for Arsenal to prise him away from West Ham.

Genuine star quality

The 21-year-old is vitally important to West Ham.

Rice has made 100 appearances for the Hammers, racking up two goals and three assists in the process (Transfermarkt).

In 90 Premier League appearances for West Ham, the seven-capped England international has racked up 221 tackles, 140 interceptions, 165 clearances and 610 ball recoveries (premierleague.com).

Keeping hold of the the seven-capped England international will be of paramount importance to the Hammers hopes of making progress over the next few years.

It will be incredibly hard for the east London outfit to reject a significant offer for Rice, however.

Having said that, it will be equally difficult for Arsenal to splash out £70 million on one player, considering the current climate.

The 21-year-old is still under contract with West Ham until the summer of 2024. So the Hammers hold all the cards.

Let’s just hope the owners show some real ambition this summer by keeping hold of the talented young star.

If they do, West Ham will have a real chance of making genuine progress next season.
