Ray Parlour suggested that Arthur Masuaku’s sending off for West Ham against Aston Villa on Monday night was a poor decision from Mike Dean, when speaking during Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT this morning (September 18th, 07:53).

The Democratic Republic of Congo left-back was given his marching orders in the 67th minute, having been adjudged to have clipped Elmohamady.

At the time, Masuaku was already on a yellow card. The decision still seemed to be incredibly harsh nevertheless.

Mike Dean is renowned for his penchant for dishing out red cards. So West Ham fans will not have been surprised to see the left-back sent off.

The 25-year-old has been a decent performer for West Ham this season. So losing him for the final third of the match against Aston Villa was an obvious blow to Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

He will now be unavailable for the Hammers’ home clash with Manchester United on Sunday.

And Parlour blasted Mike Dean’s decision to send Masuaku off on Monday night, when speaking during Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT this morning (September 18th, 07:53):

“I was amazed that he got another yellow card for that. We would have finished with eight men most weeks when I played. I thought it would have been a bit harsh if he hadn’t been booked and had got a yellow card for that.”

Unfortunately for West Ham, they cannot appeal Masuaku’s red card, because he received two yellows.

Either Aaron Cresswell or Pablo Zabaleta will now have to fill in for the 25-year-old on Sunday against Manchester United.

And that will be really concerning for Hammers fans, considering the pace of the Red Devils’ attack.
