A rare picture has emerged on social media showing West Ham United and Everton goalscoring legends chatting on the pitch.
It has been a dark week for football with pitch invasions and incidents marring the beautiful game.
So when a wonderful rarely seen picture from the times it was a gentleman’s sport emerged online it struck a chord.

Watson and Dean the goalscoring legends
Nobody has scored more goals in the history of West Ham than Vic Watson.
And the same can be said for Everton’s own all-time top goalscorer Dixie Dean.
Between them the deadly duo scored an incredible 681 goals in 895 games.

Ronaldo and Messi eat your heart out
They are the kind of goalscoring statistics reserved for the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Nobody has come close for the Hammers of the Toffees ever since those halcyon days.
Now a brilliant picture has emerged on Twitter showing Watson and Dean chatting on the pitch before an FA Cup semi-final between the clubs at Molineux in the 1932/33 season.
Watson scored 298 goals in 462 games for West Ham. Dean scored 383 in 433 appearances for Everton.
Two goalscoring legends. Two captains of two great English football clubs and two absolute gentlemen if this picture is anything to go by.

A picture to savour 86 years on
It would be fascinating to know what the pair were talking about.
Perhaps they were having a secret wager on who would score more goals that day.
Everton won that game 2-1 and went on to lift their second ever FA Cup with Dean scoring a brace in a 3-0 final victory over Manchester City.
What Marco Silva and Manuel Pellegrini would do for them now.
