West Ham could be looking for a new manager soon – if Manuel Pellegrini cannot find a win at Southampton this weekend.
The Hammers are two places and one point above the relegation zone. It has been a miserable run of form with just one win since September. Pellegrini’s job is rightly under scrutiny.
If Southampton win on Saturday, they go above West Ham. There is a strong possibility that the Irons could be in the drop zone if they lose on the south coast. But who is available as a manager?
West Ham need to avoid the likes of Chris Hughton, David Moyes, Tony Pulis and Sam Allardyce. Instead, fans need an appointment to get excited about. Ralf Rangnick could be that man.
Who is Ralf Rangnick?
Rangnick is an experienced manager who has spent his career in Germany. He has enjoyed a lot of success in his homeland and has never left a club with a win rate of less than 40 per cent.
His two most recent jobs have both been at Red Bull Leipzig. He has firmly established RB Leipzig as Bundesliga heavyweights, competing in the Champions League.
The 61-year-old has also had spells with Schalke, Hoffenheim, Hannover, Stuttgart and several others. He is experienced and has a strong proven track record of success wherever he goes.
Rangnick is currently working as the Head of Sport and Development for Red Bull Sports. But West Ham could tempt him with an enticing project. This is the sort of manager that the Hammers need to be aiming for, rather than the washed-up boring names.
