Premier League clubs and Bayer Leverkusen will exploit big West Ham problem, there’s nothing David Moyes can do about it

West Ham United are just about holding on to seventh place in the Premier League table, but David Moyes faces a big problem ahead.

David Moyes has some huge games lying ahead of him, with West Ham facing seven more Premier League matches and a Europa League quarter-final double-header with Bayer Leverkusen.

The Hammers boss told reporters on Tuesday night that his side had turned a corner after the 1-1 draw with Tottenham at the London Stadium.

We have three very winnable Premier League games coming again over the next couple of weeks against Wolves, Fulham and Crystal Palace.

If we are to finish inside the top seven this season, we need a minimum of seven points from those matches.

Alongside those clashes, West Ham face Bayer Leverkusen in Europe, and the players will obviously have to be at their very best if we’re to progress through to the semi-finals of the competition.

However, there is a very big problem that faces the Hammers, and Moyes won’t be able to do anything about it…

David Moyes powerless as big problem faces West Ham

The Hammers’ season will be defined by our next five games – three in the league and the two legs against Leverkusen.

As mentioned earlier, we need to get a couple of wins and a draw at the very least from the Premier League fixtures.

Meanwhile in Europe, Bayer Leverkusen will obviously represent a really difficult challenge, but on our day we’re capable of giving them a real good game both home and away.

The major problem staring the Hammers squarely in the face is our lack of strength in depth, and the minimal options Moyes has available to him from the bench.

This means that our current starting lineup almost picks itself. The only selection dilemma is who to take out of the side when Edson Alvarez comes back in, but even that is fairly easy to predict.

When we’re playing tough away games Michail Antonio will probably come out of the side for the Mexican but in games we have to win, it will most like be James Ward-Prowse who is sacrificed.

The West Ham starting lineup basically picks itself, and that means that David Moyes has a big issue because we will be easy to plan against.

Wolves, Fulham and Palace don’t have any European commitments, so they will have a full week to plan for the games against us. And tactical mastermind Xabi Alonso will be plotting our demise as well.

It could be a tough few weeks ahead for the Hammers, and I think our lack of strength in depth may well be about to catch up with us. Hopefully Moyes addressed that in the summer.
