Player West Ham fans have been raving about has a terrible habit, he was embarrassing vs Liverpool

West Ham United were absolutely hammered by Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday evening.

It was an atrocious performance all-round from West Ham against Liverpool, and Julen Lopetegui has to take a lot of the blame.

Sure, the players weren’t anywhere near good enough, but Lopetegui’s setup was cowardly in the extreme.

It has been claimed that the Spaniard’s job is safe for now, but the Hammers board must be getting tired of the performances he’s overseeing.

Many of the summer signings haven’t worked out, and we still have glaring deficiencies in the squad.

Lopetegui, the players, and Tim Steidten all deserve huge criticism in my eyes.

And one of our supposedly brilliant summer signing’s performance against the Reds was utterly abysmal in my eyes.

One West Ham player was embarrassing vs Liverpool

The performance from the team in general was disgusting in my opinion.

That might sound harsh, but what other words do that garbage we witnessed today justice?

It was men against boys at the London Stadium, and one player in particular epitomised our total ineptness.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka joined West Ham from Manchester United in the summer, and he began his Hammers career in fine fashion.

The 27-year-old has operated as more of an attacking wing-back than an orthodox full-back since joining the Hammers, and he has spoken out about how Lopetegui has made it clear to him that that’s what he wants from him.

The problem with that is that we end up with arguably the best one v one defender caught out of position regularly throughout matches.

If Lopetegui really wants him to operate in an advanced role, then that will of course happen from time to time.

However, what is not acceptable is the way that Wan-Bissaka jogs back into position when he is caught upfield.

It happens time and time again – the former Manchester United man shows zero hunger or desire to get back into position.

And it’s costing us dearly.

If Julen Lopetegui is to persist with Aaron Wan-Bissaka as an attacking wing-back, then the 27-year-old needs to realise the onus is on him to get back and help out when he’s caught up the pitch in transition.

His performance for West Ham against Liverpool on Sunday evening was disgraceful if you ask me.

The easy way to solve the problem would be to utilise him as a defensive full-back. Whether Lopetegui is here long enough to make that change remains to be seen though.
