Player David Sullivan sold for £9 million is ripping it up abroad, but West Ham fans have forgotten how bad he was

West Ham United co-owner sometimes receives unnecessary criticism from the Hammers fans.

Don’t get me wrong, the West Ham co-owner deserves a lot of the flack he gets.

David Sullivan has made a lot of poor decisions in the transfer market throughout the years – ones that have cost West Ham dearly.

However, in the interest of balance, he has overseen some terrific deals for the Hammers as well.

The fact that he got £105 million for Declan Rice in the end was pure genius.

The 76-year-old clearly knows what he’s doing when it comes to business – he is a billionaire after all.

And he oversaw another very impressive deal recently in my opinion – one that he has received absolutely no credit for.

Thilo Kehrer has been on fire since West Ham exit

German defender Thilo Kehrer has been in exceptional form for Monaco this season.

And that has led to suggestions from some Hammers fans that we should never have sold him in the first place.

In 19 Ligue 1 appearances for Monaco this season, Kehrer has scored four goals, and has averaged 1.7 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 4.3 clearances and 2.2 successful aerial duels per game. During those matches he has averaged 68.2 passes and has recorded a completion rate of 89.4% (Who Scored).

Those are some seriously impressive numbers.

Not only has he been the best performing centre-back statistically in Europe’s top five leagues this season, but he has also earned rave reviews from the French media for his performances for Monaco.

Monaco-Matin have raved about Kehrer during a piece solely focused on the German.

He speaks seven languages.

He can talk to anyone in the locker room.”

I think the most important thing is that he now really plays in one position,” analyses the same source to explain this consistency in performances. He can play in the centre, on the right, on the left, in a defence of four, in a defence of three… But he is more comfortable in the centre.”

He likes life here, he feels good with the coach, his partners… Right now, everything is perfect for him.

West Ham fans have got it all wrong about Thilo Kehrer

West Ham sold Thilo Kehrer to Monaco in the summer for just £9 million, after he enjoyed a successful four-month loan spell with the Ligue 1 outfit.

At the time, that seemed like a good deal for the Hammers.

And the thing is, I still think it was, in spite of his fine form out in France.

The Germany international was painfully ill-suited to playing Premier League football, and he was targeted by the opposition time and time again due to his poor positional awareness and rash decision making.

Kehrer may be a hit in Ligue 1, but he got absolutely destroyed in the Premier League.

Selling him was 100% the correct call from the Hammers, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
