West Ham’s longstanding attempt to install a claret carpet at The London Stadium has finally been completed.
New photos from the club’s official photographer show the claret pitch surround on the outside of the playing field at The London Stadium.
This was something first that Slaven Bilic once spoke about. The Croat noted that a large green strip between the end of the pitch and the crowd was mentally affecting his players.
But now West Ham can boast a claret carpet in the quest to make the London Stadium feel more like home.
Many West Ham fans have been disappointed since the move from Upton Park to the old Olympic Stadium in Stratford.
The atmosphere has been difficult to recreate, especially given the distance from the pitch to the stands. But this claret carpet is one step towards making this stadium feel more like the home of West Ham.
There have been rumours indicating that the next step will be squaring off the stands behind the goal to make it more like a football stadium, rather than an athletics stadium.
But for now, West Ham fans have the claret carpet they have been longing for. There is a West Ham crest as players come out of the changing room with the words “Academy of Football” and “Founded in 1895” either side.
