Perennial West Ham target Wout Weghorst has been tipped to join Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham by Dutch media outlet De Telegraaf.

The Hammers were first linked with a move for the towering hitman back in the summer of 2018 (RTV Oost). The same media outlet then reported of West Ham’s interest the following summer.

The Daily Mail then claimed in May of this year that the Wolfsburg striker is on the Hammers’ radar once again.

With our need for another centre-forward, Weghorst would be the ideal addition this summer. But it seems as though Tottenham are in the driving seat to sign the 28-year-old Dutchman.

De Telegraaf claims that Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is ready to open talks to bring the Holland international to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Stats

Weghorst was in great form last season, racking up 20 goals and five assists in 43 games in all competitions for Wolfsburg (Transfermarkt).

In 32 Bundesliga games, the 6ft 6in Holland international averaged 2.5 shots and 1.2 key passes per game. He also won an average of 4.1 aerial duals per match (Who Scored).

It is the 28-year-old’s dream to play in the Premier League (De Telegraaf).

Weghorst will undoubtedly be a useful addition for whichever club wins the race for his signature. Tottenham are seemingly in the driving seat to sign the Dutchman, however.

And West Ham may just miss out on the striker yet again.

Wolfsburg will allegedly demand £32 million for the giant hitman, however (Bild). So it is highly doubtful that we would have splashed that kind of cash on a striker this summer anyway.
