Pellegrini’s failure to criticise West Ham stopper Roberto is absolute madness and actually quite embarrassing

West Ham were embarrassed by Burnley at Turf Moor yesterday.

The Clarets ran out as comfortable 3-0 winners, and the Hammers looked like a team totally devoid of confidence and ideas.

Whilst not one West Ham player played well, some were worse than others.

Roberto put in a comical display. He really is not Premier League quality, and the Hammers will always struggle to win games when he is between the sticks.

Manuel Pellegrini spoke to reporters after the game, and was asked what he thought of the Spaniard’s performance, as quoted by Football.London:

“I don’t analyse individual performances. As a team we lost the game, not individual performances.”

Roberto is clearly not good enough, and Pellegrini should realise this before it’s too late. The Chilean’s failure to recognise the 33-year-old’s shocking displays are absolute madness. Even if he is just trying to protect the goalkeeper.

The West Ham owners must now be regretting their failure to provide Pellegrini with funds to buy a decent back-up goalkeeper for Lukasz Fabianski.

And the Hammers boss should call the owners out by publicly criticising Roberto.

West Ham fans aren’t stupid. But Pellegrini is treating them like they are with his bullishness regarding Roberto.

And it’s time for that to end.
