West Ham stopper Roberto has found himself to be the target of heavy criticism in recent weeks.
The Spaniard has played the last four Premier League games for the Hammers, after Lukasz Fabianski suffered a serious injury against Bournemouth at the end of September.
And the 33-year-old has already made numerous high profile errors.
Roberto joined West Ham on a free transfer in the summer, but Manuel Pellegrini would not have expected to have had to play him so much already this season.
It is clear to see that he is not cut out for Premier League football. And in truth, he is quite simply not good enough.
Despite the experienced goalkeeper’s poor form, however, Pellegrini has not criticised him once, and the Chilean continues to play the Spaniard.
This blind stubbornness from the West Ham boss is proving to be very costly for the Hammers, and it could end up leading to his own downfall.
The Sun have already reported that Pellegrini is facing the sack if results don’t improve.
If the Hammers continue to struggle, it would be no surprise to see the Chilean lose his job.
And having Roberto between the sticks is certainly not helping his cause. Why not admit that he got it wrong with the Spaniard? Rather than just keep defending him to the hilt.
Pellegrini could bring David Martin into the side. He could also scour the market for a free agent goalkeeper.
West Ham fans are tired of hearing that Roberto is a ‘top-class’ goalkeeper. He is quite clearly not. And the sooner that Pellegrini admits that that better.
