Pellegrini confirms West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere has suffered another injury

Manuel Pellegrini addressed the media in the aftermath of West Ham’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield United yesterday, and offered an explanation for Jack Wilshere’s absence in the squad, as quoted by Football.London.

The 27-year-old midfielder joined the Hammers in the summer of 2018 on a free transfer. Unfortunately for him, however, his time in east London has been plagued by injuries.

In fact, Wilshere’s entire career has been hindered by fitness problems.

The Englishman earns £100,000 per week at West Ham according to Spotrac, and the merits of offering him a contract like that have now been laid bare.

Wilshere has made just 16 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers. And he has failed to make any kind of impact as of yet.

And Pellegrini explained how the former Arsenal man picked up yet another injury in the build up to the Sheffield United game, as quoted by Football.London:

“Jack had a small problem in his groin. It’s not important but he was not 100 per cent. It was similar to what happened with Cresswell last week. If they are not 100 per cent I think it’s better for him not to take the risk with a muscle injury.”

West Ham have a week until they play again. And it is unclear as to whether Wilshere will be back ready to play then.

The 27-year-old has just 18 months remaining on his current contract. And he really has his work cut-out if he is to earn an extended deal at the London Stadium.
