Paul Ince suggested that Declan Rice should stay at West Ham, when speaking during BT Sport’s Early Kick Off programme yesterday.
The 20-year-old has really impressed for the Hammers over the past 12 months.
Rice’s fine form for West Ham has seen him earn five international caps for England.
And the West Ham ace’s excellent displays have not gone unnoticed.
According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United want to sign the Hammers starlet.
Ince doesn’t believe that Rice is ready to move to Old Trafford, however.
The former Hammer, who left Upton Park for Manchester United in acrimonious circumstances in 1989, responded when asked whether the Red Devils need the West Ham ace, when speaking during BT Sport’s Early Kick Off programme:
“No, they don’t. I think he needs to stay where he is. I don’t think he’s at that level yet, so, no.”
West Ham fans will surely disagree with Ince. The 51-year-old is already a hate-figure in east London. And his comments on Rice will anger Hammers fans even more.
At just 20, Rice can obviously still improve further still, but he is already at a truly elite level.
Every mistake that the West Ham youngster makes seems to be scrutinised unfairly. And that will just be something that he has to deal with throughout his career.
Hammers fans will continue to stick by one of their brightest ever young talents, however, despite what pundits say about him.
