According to a report from L’Equipe, West Ham are interested in signing Le Havre ace Pape Alassane Gueye this summer.

The 20-year-old is a tough-tackling, ball-winning midfielder, and he could be a real coup for the Hammers.

West Ham already have an extremely strong central midfield department. Mark Noble is ageing, however, so bringing in a younger model this summer will be a wise move.

Whilst Gueye is far from the finished article, he has the potential to go on and become one of the very best.

His playing style is very similar to his namesake – Everton’s Idrissa Gueye.

The young Frenchman’s tenacity would be a real asset for West Ham, especially in tough away games, and he could form an extremely solid double pivot with Declan Rice at the base of the Hammers’ midfield.

The Frenchman would be a signing made with one eye on the future, rather than for the here and now, but that would be a refreshing change for West Ham fans, after the recent trend of bringing in older players who are way past their best.

West Ham need more youth and energy in the middle of the park.

And the Le Havre ace seems to possesses all of the attributes needed to be a hit in the Premier League.

He is powerful and physically robust. And he excels when presented with a physical battle.

West Ham fans might not know much about Gueye. That doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t be a great signing for them, however.
