Pablo Fornals offered high words of praise for the West Ham fans, when speaking to the club’s official website yesterday.
The 24-year-old joined the Hammers from Villarreal in the summer of 2019, for around £24 million (BBC).
He made a slow start to life in east London, but gradually began to show what he is capable of from around September time.
Fornals was arguably West Ham’s best player for the final two months of Manuel Pellegrini’s tenure at the London Stadium.
But since David Moyes has taken over, Fornals has played just 270 Premier League minutes.
43 of those came against Liverpool on Monday night, and that proved to be enough time for the midfielder to get on the scoresheet. He now has four goals and three assists to his name in 29 appearances for the Hammers (Who Scored).
And the Spaniard told WHUFC.com just how grateful he is for the West Ham fans’ continued support of him and his teammates:
“When I scored, I wanted to go to our fans. Every single day, they support me. They want me to always play and I want to pay that back with goals and good performances. That’s how I can say ‘Thank you’. It’s amazing to look at my social media and see how the fans support me. Thank you to all our supporters, who never stopped. We need them every time and it is because of them we have belief.”
Next up for West Ham is an absolutely massive home game against Southampton. And they will need the Hammers fans to be right behind them for the entire match.
Protests against the board and manager inside the stadium can wait. West Ham need a win against the Saints. Nothing less than three points will do, if they are to avoid relegation this season.
And Fornals will be hoping to help his team achieve just that.
