Pablo Fornals suggests return to Pellegrini tactics is helping West Ham

Pablo Fornals told Spanish media outlet Marca that he is happy that West Ham boss David Moyes has reverted to the system used by Manuel Pellegrini.

The 24-year-old joined the Hammers in the summer of 2019 for around £24 million (BBC).

The Spaniard made a slow start to life in east London. But he began to find his feet around October time.

And Fornals was arguably West Ham’s best player for the final two months of Manuel Pellegrini’s tenure at the London Stadium.

The Spaniard hasn’t played much under Moyes since the Scot took over, however.

The former Villarreal man did start last weekend’s game against Southampton though, and he really impressed.

Fornals hinted that a return to the system used under Pellegrini has helped West Ham recently, when speaking to Marca:

“We have returned to what we were doing with Manuel and it is giving us results. Maybe we don’t have the ball so much and we prioritise reaching the area fast and scoring goals. I still play on the left wing and I am delighted to be the protagonist again and I am looking forward to helping my team.”

Moyes must stick with winning formula

The 24-year-old is presumably referring to Moyes switching back to a 4-4-2, having initially experimented with three central defenders upon his return to the London Stadium.

The east Londoners also seem to be playing more direct with Michail Antonio partnering Sebastien Haller up front.

And hopefully West Ham will continue the form they displayed against Southampton.

It’s Arsenal away up next, and if the Hammers players turn up, they will be more than capable of taking a positive result away with them from the Emirates.

It will be far from easy. But Moyes has the players at his disposal to cause an upset against the Gunners.
