Premier League football has been postponed until April 3rd at the very earliest (BBC). And it’s bad news for West Ham, but great news for Tottenham.
The Hammers were scheduled to take on Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on March 20th.
David Moyes’s men would have fancied their chances against Jose Mourinho’s side, in spite of their current position in the Premier League table.
Tottenham are currently without Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Steven Bergwijn. Injuries have decimated Spurs’ attack.
And it has really derailed the north London outfit’s season in recent weeks and months.
Mourinho’s men are without a win in six games in all competitions. And they were dumped out of the Champions League in midweek at the hands of RB Leipzig.
The Spurs players’ confidence is also at rock bottom at the moment.
Bearing all of that in mind, West Ham would have been confident of getting a result at Tottenham next Friday.
But with fixtures now being postponed for at least three weeks, the Hammers will probably not play Spurs until mid-April.
By which time they could have one, two, or even all three of Kane, Son and Bergwijn back and available for selection.
This is obviously all conjecture, but it is reasonable to believe that West Ham would have had a better chance of beating Tottenham this time next week than they will in a month or so.
The Hammers have had some bad luck with injuries and VAR decisions going against them this season.
And it seems as though that bad luck could be set to continue for a while yet…
