Our View: If report is true, Moyes could be making a big mistake placing so much faith in Jack Wilshere

Jack Wilshere joined West Ham on a free transfer in the summer of 2018.

The 28-year-old midfielder has really struggled with Arsenal leading up to his move to the Hammers. Injuries played havoc with the 34-capped England international’s career.

And things haven’t got any better for Wilshere at West Ham.

The left-footed ace has made just 16 appearances for the Hammers in 20 months, racking up just one goal and one assist in the process (Transfermarkt).

The 28-year-old was such an exciting talent when coming through the ranks at Arsenal more than a decade ago.

But those days are long gone.

Wilshere has quite simply suffered too many injuries. And it is hard to envisage a scenario where he would return to anywhere near his best form.

The Englishman has looked so far off the pace when he has played for West Ham. And he is out of contract with the Hammers in the summer of 2021.

So bearing that in mind, it is surprising to read that David Moyes is planning to build his team around three players next season, with one of them being Wilshere, according to the Daily Star.

And that, if true, could be a massive mistake from the Scot.

Surely West Ham should be trying to move Wilshere on in the summer? In doing so, the Hammers would get his massive £100,000 per week wages (Spotrac) of their wage-bill.

Severing ties with the 28-year-old is surely the wise move. But whether Moyes agrees with that remains to be seen.
