Nuno Espirito Santo must lead West Ham United into new territory if his side are going to really pile the pressure on Tottenham in the relegation battle.

On paper, West Ham United have a brilliant opportunity to move five points ahead of Spurs towards the bottom of the Premier League table.

Saturday’s opponents Brentford have not won a game in six attempts, while the Hammers have been a genuine Premier League force since as far back as mid-January.

What changes are you making to this team? Just don’t think Wilson should start 😬

With Spurs not in action until Sunday evening, the Irons could feasibly open up a five-point gap for a few hours at least.

Still, Nuno has to go against the history books ahead of Brentford versus West Ham by becoming the first Hammers boss to win there in the Premier League era.

West Ham have never won at Brentford in the Premier League

The Bees came up to the Premier League for the first time in their history back in 2021.

Seen as one of the better examples of how to run a club, they have rarely genuinely feared relegation ever since.

West Ham United's Jarrod Bowen is congratulated after scoring his side's second goal during the Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round match between West Ham United and Brentford on March 9, 2026 in London, England.

The Gtech Community Stadium has often proven to be a very difficult place to go, particularly for West Ham.

Never before have the club won there in the Premier League era. Four short trips across London have yielded three defeats and a draw. This has not been a happy hunting ground.

Furthermore, West Ham have lost seven of their nine games against their London rivals throughout the Premier League era. No team across the competition’s history has a higher win percentage against West Ham than Saturday’s opponents (78%).

While a draw would not be the worst result in the world, only three points would genuinely make the Hammers significant favourites to stay up ahead of Tottenham with what would then be three games remaining.

Records, they say, are there to be broken…
