A visibly disappointed David Moyes spoke to reporters after his side’s 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United last night.
And the Scot suggested that the Hammers deserved a lot more, as quoted by Football.London:
“It was a good performance. It was certainly worthy of a point, if not more.”
Now, it could be argued that West Ham deserved a draw, what with their last minute equaliser having been unfairly chalked off.
But to suggest that they did enough to win the game is just plain delusion.
In truth, the Hammers were very poor against the Blades. There was rarely any attractive, quick football on display. The majority of West Ham’s attacks began with a long punt through the middle.
The Hammers’ front three were nowhere near their best, and Moyes’s side only looked like scoring probably three times throughout the entire game, and that is including the goal that was chalked off.
The east London outfit were slow and laboured with their play through the middle, and in fairness, the only side playing attractive football were Sheffield United.
The first-half was a very tight encounter, with the best chance falling to West Ham’s Felipe Anderson.
The Blades picked up in the second-half, however, and dominated the visitors for 15-20 minutes.
It was clear that the Scot was happy with the way that his team were playing because he didn’t bring on Pablo Fornals (West Ham’s best player recently) until the 83rd minute.
And there was no excuse for that.
Moyes suggesting that the Hammers could have won the game is not only deluded, but actually quite embarrassing too.
And it should really worry West Ham fans that their manager viewed last night’s display as a good one.
