West Ham boss David Moyes explained why the club are not going away on a warm-weather training camp during their two-week break from action, when speaking exclusively to WHUFC.com.
The Hammers’ last game against Manchester City scheduled for Sunday afternoon was postponed due to adverse weather.
This means that West Ham will have gone 23 days between their last game against Brighton and their next one away at Liverpool on February 24th.
And Moyes told WHUFC.com how the players have been given time off to do their own thing, whilst explaining why the club have not jetted off for a mid-season training camp, just like they did when he was in charge at the London Stadium last time:
“The biggest thing is a break. Last time I was here, we went away to a warm-weather training camp but we’ve not done it this time because I don’t think we’re ready for it quite yet. We have other things we need to do first, like get people back from injury. My feeling is that I’ve always wanted to treat the players like adults. For example the players who are international players get just about zero holiday time now. So, if you get the chance to have four days with your wife and your family, I think they appreciate it.”

Only time will tell if it is the right decision or not. Hopefully the West Ham players return refreshed and ready to go for the final three months of the season.
The mid-season break could be crucial for the players. Especially considering that James Collins told BBC Radio Five Live on Thursday just how mentally jaded the Hammers players are.
West Ham have some incredibly tough games coming up over the next six week or so.
They will need to be at it in every match, if they are to have any chance of avoiding the drop this season.
And Moyes will be praying the the time off will do his players the world of good heading into the nightmare run of games that they have coming up.
