West Ham ace Michail Antonio offered words of gratitude for the West Ham fans, when speaking exclusively to the club’s official website over the weekend.
The 29-year-old came on as a second-half substitute against Watford on Saturday. And he completely changed the game in the Hammers’ favour.
Antonio has always been somewhat of a cult hero amongst the West Ham fans. He moved to east London from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2015 for around £7 million.
The winger has gone on to chalk up 28 goals and 18 assists in 131 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers. Decent numbers considering he played many of those games at right-back.
Antonio will be vitally important for West Ham this season. Especially if he continues the form he displayed against Watford.
The 29-year-old spoke to the club’s official website, and highlighted how important the Hammers fans have been to his development at the London Stadium:
“I love the fans too. They’ve always been behind me and had my back, even in the three months [at the start] when I wasn’t playing and was the invisible man. They kept singing my name. I’m happy I played and I’m happy they want me to play.”
Next up for West Ham is a Carabao Cup clash with Newport County tonight. Before they play host to Norwich City in the Premier League at the weekend.
And Antonio will be hoping to be involved in both games after his fine showing against Watford.
