West Ham skipper Mark Noble spoke to reporters after yesterday’s defeat to Tottenham, and delivered a stark warning to his teammates, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The Hammers were dreadful against Spurs. And they deserved to lose heavily. The 3-2 scoreline actually ended up flattering them.
West Ham now sit in 16th spot in the Premier League table. And they are just three points clear of the drop zone.
If Manuel Pellegrini’s are not careful, they could have a relegation battle on their hands.
Their fall from grace over the past six weeks or so has really been rather spectacular.
Since beating Manchester United 2-0 in September, the Hammers have lost six and drawn two.
And Noble did not hold back when discussing the severity of West Ham’s current situation, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
“I know everyone says it, but in the 15 years I’ve been playing football hasn’t changed. You run around, work hard, put your tackles in and win your headers and let the quality take care of itself and at the minute we’re not doing it. We have to turn it around quickly, full stop. If we don’t, we’re going to be in a relegation battle and this club with this squad, we want to get away from that sort of season. If we don’t buck our ideas up and get back on the training pitch and do the things you need to do to survive in the Premier League, you’ve got no chance.”
And that should be a real worry for Hammers fans. The fact that Pellegrini’s men are not doing the simple things that are expected of them highlights just how much they have fallen away over the past two months.
West Ham face Chelsea and Wolves both away from home over the next 10 days. Before they play host to Arsenal in two weeks time.
And if the Hammers do not improve drastically, Manuel Pellegrini could very well be without a job before the turn of the year.
