West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini spoke to reporters after his side’s superb win over Manchester United today, and shared what he told his players during the half-time interval, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The Hammers were not at their best today, but luckily for them, United were abysmal.
The East London outfit were at least solid at the back. And that is now four consecutive clean sheets in all competitions for Pellegrini’s side.
West Ham now sit in fifth spot in the Premier League table, level on points with third placed Leicester.
Pellegrini addressed the media after the game, and shared what he told his players after they went into the half-time break 1-0 up, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“I said at half time if we continued to defend as we did in the first half, not just in our box, but force them to make mistakes immediately when they came into our half, then we are not going to concede too many opportunities. That’s how it worked out and then that beautiful free-kick finished the game.”
West Ham seem to have all the tools to really push on and finish inside the top six this season.
The Hammers face Oxford United in the Carabao Cup in midweek. They then make the trip to the south coast to take on Bournemouth next weekend.
And Pellegrini’s men will be desperate to make a statement by beating the Cherries on their home turf.
