West Ham are in real trouble at the moment, but Lukasz Fabianski spoke positively about his side’s chances of avoiding the drop this season, when speaking exclusively to the club’s official website.
The Hammers are currently sitting in 18th spot in the Premier League table, one point adrift of safety.
The good news is that David Moyes’s men have a game in hand over all the teams in and around them in the table. The bad news, however, is that said game in hand is away at Liverpool tonight.
West Ham desperately need to start picking up some wins soon.
After tonight’s trip to Liverpool, the Hammers have some winnable games on paper. They face Southampton, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea at home and Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United away in their next six outings.
Anything tonight at Anfield would be a big bonus.
But Fabianski believes West Ham have enough quality to trouble the Merseyside outfit tonight, telling WHUFC.com:
“If you look at the quality of the players that we have, I think it’s massive, and the squad that we have is really good. When you’re in this position you try to just make sure you get points on board. At the moment we understand the situation and we’ll use all that we have to get a result. Looking around the dressing room, I mentioned the quality of the players, but it’s easy to see as well that there’s a hunger to put things right and just show we are better than the position we are in.”
The Hammers do have a lot of quality players. But the worry for West Ham fans is that Moyes will not use all of them against Liverpool tonight. The Scot will most likely set up defensively once agin, as he did against Manchester City.
And that will surely prove to be a cataclysmic error. There is just no value in trying to contain such a powerful attacking force for 90 minutes.
West Ham need points desperately. And cannot afford to just throw them away. In spite of the fact that the team they are going up against are arguably the best in world football at the moment.
