Les Ferdinand highlights West Ham’s lack of a natural goalscorer as a real problem

Les Ferdinand suggested that West Ham are missing a natural goalscorer, when speaking exclusively to Football.London.

The Hammers signed Sebastien Haller for £45 million from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer. But the Frenchman has struggled to establish himself in England, scoring just six goals in 26 games thus far.

It could be argued that he hasn’t received the kind of service or support that he did during his time in Germany, however.

Even so, Haller needs to do more. He needs to put himself about more, and generally just be more of a nuisance for opposing defenders.

And then perhaps the goals will begin to flow.

Ferdinand – someone who knows all about scoring goals, highlighted West Ham’s lack of a consistent goal threat as a problem as they try to avoid the drop, when speaking to Football.London:

“They’ve got the ability in their squad but it’s the goalscorer upfront they need who will get 10-15 goals in the league. If you’ve got that you give yourself a great chance of staying in the division.”

Who knows? Perhaps Haller will embark on a goalscoring run between now and the end of the season.

And if he can score at least six or seven goals in West Ham’s final 12 Premier League games, David Moyes’s side will have a good chance of avoiding the drop.

It remains to be seen whether the Scot adjusts his system and tactics to aid the misfiring Frenchman, however.

Next up for the Hammers is a trip to Liverpool tomorrow night. No one expects the east London outfit to get anything at Anfield.

And it would be so refreshing to see Moyes set up with the ambition to win the match for a change.

It is the only way that West Ham stand a chance of getting anything against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
