Kevin Nolan raved about Issa Diop, when speaking to Sky Sports today (Tuesday, September 24th, 10:56am), suggesting that the centre-back has been a great buy for West Ham.
The 22-year-old joined the Hammers from Toulouse in the summer of 2018, for a fee believed to be worth £22 million, according to BBC Sport.
And what a superb signing the Frenchman has proven to be for West Ham.
Diop has all of the ingredients needed to succeed in the Premier League. He’s big and strong, tenacious in the tackle, and is a great leader.
The 22-year-old has forged an incredibly solid partnership with Angelo Ogbonna at the heart of West Ham’s back-line. And £22 million for his signature is now starting to look like an absolute snip.
Nolan is certainly a big fan of Diop.
The former Hammers skipper talked up the Frenchman’s quality, when speaking to Sky Sports today (Tuesday, September 24th, 10:56am):
“Quality, that’s the reason why all the top clubs were talking about buying him in the summer. He’s been a great buy and has slotted in really well next to Ogbonna.”
West Ham did well to resist numerous reported approaches for Diop in the summer.
France Football reported back in July that Manchester United wanted to sign the Hammers centre-back. Meanwhile, the Sun claimed that Arsenal wanted Diop, but were put off by his £60 million valuation.
West Ham fans will be hoping that he remains at the London Stadium for the foreseeable future. He certainly seems happy enough in east London at the moment. And a top six finish might just be enough to convince him that he can achieve his ambitions with the Hammers.
