Rangers legend Kenny Miller said that he had a big offer to join West Ham from Hibernian way back in 2000, but chose to move to Ibrox instead, when speaking exclusively to Si Ferry.

The 40-year-old retired from professional football two weeks ago (BBC), after an outstanding career that spanned 24 years.

He scored 267 goals in 809 career appearances (BBC).

Miller won four league titles during his spells with Rangers and Celtic, and earned 70 international caps for Scotland.

He did spend some time in England and Wales, with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Derby County and Cardiff City respectively.

The striker could have moved to England much earlier on in his career, however, according to the player himself.

Miller suggested that he chose to move to Rangers despite there being more money on the table from West Ham 20 years ago, when speaking exclusively to Si Ferry:

“I signed a new contract in January (2000), and was told that the club were looking to move me on in the summer. And true enough, there was a few things going on. I was on holiday at the time, Hibs had accepted a bid from Rangers and there was a bid from West Ham on the table as well. My agent said, ‘what do you want to do?’, I was like ‘I want to go to Rangers’. I think there was a good bit of money on the table from West Ham. It was a good bit less that Rangers offered.”

Miller’s dream was obviously to play for Rangers. West Ham were a very good side back in 2000. So turning down a move to the Premier League could not have been easy for the then 20-year-old.

Who knows how much success Miller could have enjoyed, had he moved to the Hammers instead of Rangers.

One thing is for certain, however…he would not have won as many league titles had he chosen east London instead of Glasgow.
