West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady suggested that the main reason why Manuel Pellegrini was sacked was because of the unhappiness of club’s supporters, when writing her regular column for the Sun.
The Chilean took charge of the Hammers in the summer of 2018, but never really did the job that was expected of him.
West Ham finished in 10th position in the Premier League table last season.
And after a disastrous start this term, the east London outfit actually dropped inside the bottom three before David Moyes took charge of his first game.
Pellegrini was relieved of his duties last Saturday after a 2-1 home defeat to Leicester City.
And Brady told the Sun the main reason why the South American was dismissed from his role as West Ham boss:
“So we became the third Premier League club in six weeks to dispense with a manager. The most important reason for doing so was, we felt, the interests of our supporters. The risk in keeping Pellegrini, an admirable man, became just too great. In David Moyes returning to the club, we know where his strengths lie.”
West Ham won their first game with Moyes in charge 4-0 at home to Bournemouth. And the result was a vital one.
The Hammers’ next four games are Sheffield United away, Everton at home, Leicester City away and Liverpool at home.
So they will need to be on their very best form if they are to have any chance whatsoever of emerging from that period unscathed.
And Brady and co will be hoping that Moyes can do what Pellegrini couldn’t for West Ham between now and the end of the season.
