This season has been the Ravel Morrison show for West Ham United. The 20 year old midfielder has been in sparkling form for Sam Allardyce’s side, but just how good is he?
There has been a lot written about Morrison in the press about the issues he has had in his life, but I write my article from a fans perspective. West Ham fans can be impatient, and when we heard that we had signed Rav from Manchester United, we all assumed he would be part of the first team squad. He was shipped out on loan last season to Birmingham following question marks about his attitude to the game, and his off field problems, and he has come back a new man.
Its fair to say we all felt a bit disgruntled when Big Sam allowed Robert Hall to leave for Bolton Wanderers. A lot of supporters raised concerns about Allardyce and the fact he doesn’t play any of our youngsters. The same was said when he allowed Zavon Hines and Junior Stanislas to leave. However, Morrison has been part of the squad since his return from Birmingham, and has shown Big Sam exactly what he’s about.
Morrison is better than all three mentioned above. In fact, I haven’t been this excited about a youngster coming through to the first team since Joe Cole first broke onto the scene. But I’m not sure Cole made as big an impact on the first team as Morrison has. Morrison has 4 goals already this season, more than 2 of our strikers managed last season. He is quick, skillful, great with the ball at his feet, but shows good movement too. His passing is excellent, he keeps possession well, and of course, can finish as well.
I hope Morrisons goal against Spurs is just the start of a beautiful relationship with the West Ham supporters. Rav is by far the best youngster we have had in a long, long time! Let’s hope we offer him a bumper new contract and he can lead us into the Olympic Stadium!
COME ON YOU IRONS!!
