Joe Cole predicted that West Ham will avoid relegation, if and when the Premier League eventually resumes, when speaking exclusively to the Press Association and quoted via the Evening Standard.

The Hammers are currently sitting in 16th spot in the Premier League table. But they are level on points with 18th placed Bournemouth. David Moyes’s side are also only two points clear of 19th placed Aston Villa having played a game more than Dean Smith’s side.

West Ham were actually playing some good football before the coronavirus halted proceedings 10 days ago.

They were unlucky to lose to Arsenal, and were heading into last weekend’s scheduled clash with Wolves full of confidence.

That match obviously didn’t happen, however. And now, the remainder of the season is shrouded in uncertainty.

Cole told reporters that he believes West Ham have more than enough to avoid relegation, however, if the Premier League campaign is eventually completed, as quoted by the Evening Standard:

“West Ham were on the back of four great performances I thought, I watched them closely. The break has come and when the restart comes whenever it does, it will be about who starts better. When you come back and the season restarts, if it does, having an experienced manager who knows how to organise a team and David has a lot of experience doing that. West Ham will benefit from that. We don’t know what will go on the other side of things but from football point of view it will give them a chance to get some players fit.”

West Ham do still have some very tough games remaining this season.

If action does resume, they will have to face Wolves, Tottenham and Chelsea straight away.

And they still have to play Manchester United away as well in their penultimate game of the season.

So The Hammers will have to produce their very best form, if they are to avoid the drop this term.
