Jamie Redknapp was highly critical of West Ham winger Felipe Anderson, when writing his regular column for the Daily Mail.
The Brazilian, 26, joined the Hammers from Lazio in the summer of 2018 for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £41.5 million.
And Anderson enjoyed an impressive debut campaign with West Ham.
He has been nowhere near his best this season, however. The South American has looked like a shadow of his former self.
And his recent form will be a real concern for Hammers fans.
The east London outfit’s poor recent run of form will have made it difficult for the mercurial winger to strut his stuff, but he needs to be brave nonetheless.
And when writing his column for the Daily Mail, Redknapp admitted that he was way off the mark when he suggested rivals clubs could come in with £60 million plus offers for Anderson:
“At the start of the season, I said a standout campaign for Felipe Anderson could see rival clubs come in with £60m-plus bids for the Brazilian. But he has not been turning it on.”
Anderson really does need to stand up and be counted. He cost a lot of money. And it could be argued that West Ham are still yet to see a sufficient return on that outlay.
The 26-year-old undoubtedly possesses the talent needed to succeed in the Premier League.
He just needs to start playing with more aggression, directness and fearlessness, however.
And if West Ham are to finish inside the top seven, they need Anderson to be firing on all cylinders between now and May.
