Jack Collison suggests how West Ham should approach Liverpool game

West Ham face a tough game away at Liverpool on Monday night.

The Hammers head into the match on the back of a really poor run of form. They have taken just two points from their last six Premier League games.

David Moyes set his side up incredibly defensively in West Ham’s last outing away at Manchester City on Wednesday night.

And it played right into City’s hands.

Many West Ham fans are expecting Moyes to employ the same tactics at Anfield on Monday night.

But Collison urged the Scot to approach the game against Liverpool differently to how he did away at City on Wednesday:

Let’s be honest. The Hammers have little chance of getting anything at Anfield. But as Collison rightly says, it is somewhat of a free hit, so why not go for it?

Atletico Madrid caused Liverpool problems by playing a 4-4-2. Now, we’re not suggesting that West Ham are in the same league as Atleti, but why not try to emulate Diego Simeone’s approach to the game?

The 4-4-2 system enables the wide right and left midfielders to nullify the Reds key playmaking threats – their full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.

It would be no surprise to see Moyes deploy a 5-3-1-1 again, however.

And if West Ham to set up like that, they will almost certainly lose the match.
