If West Ham United sell Lucas Paqueta in the summer transfer window, there could well be further ramifications than simply losing the Brazilian.
West Ham could sell Lucas Paqueta to Manchester City in the summer transfer window, with the 26-year-old’s heart apparently set on playing for the Premier League and Champions League holders next season.
Paqueta joined the Hammers from Lyon for £50 million in the summer of 2022 (Goal), and he has firmly established himself as one of the most important players who David Moyes has at his disposal, if not the most important.
The Brazil international is a huge fan favourite at the London Stadium, and he has just gone up in the West Ham fans’ estimations even further still. That’s because he was speaking to reporters whilst on international duty with Brazil, when he refused to get drawn on speculation linking him with a move to Man City, instead insisting that he has too much respect for us as a club to discuss other teams.

Despite him not getting drawn on the links with Man City, it would still surprise nobody if he did move to the Etihad in the summer.
The thought of losing Paqueta is obviously a hugely concerning one – he is just so important to the way in which we play. However, and without being too pessimistic, I actually think that we could face another big problem as well, if the former Lyon man does leave East London this summer…
West Ham could lose another player if we sell Lucas Paqueta
The Hammers face a big summer window ahead, with numerous new additions required.
If Paqueta is sold to Manchester City, Moyes will obviously have to replace him, that goes without saying.
Replacing the talented South American will not be an easy task, but Moyes might have some more hard work ahead of him.

Could there be a possibility that he will have to bring in a top-class left-back to replace Emerson Palmieri as well?
The 29-year-old has been in sensational form for West Ham this season, having formed a wonderful relationship with Paqueta down the left hand flank, but it is a huge concern just how much his levels drop when the Brazilian isn’t playing just in front of him.
If the ex-Lyon star leaves the London Stadium this summer, one of two possible scenarios could come to fruition.
Firstly, Emerson may want to leave West Ham as well, with his best friend moving on from the club. Or, the Italy international’s performances might suffer so badly in Paqueta’s absence that he quite simply isn’t the same player.
Signed for £13 million from Chelsea in the summer of 2022, Emerson has proven to be a brilliant player for us. However, I really hope that if West Ham sell Paqueta, the Italian’s form doesn’t suffer too badly as a result.
