West Ham United could well discover their relegation fate tomorrow.
That’s according to reliable insider ExWHUemployee.
West Ham’s battle for survival has been put on hold after the Premier League was shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
There has been growing uncertainty over when – or indeed if – the season will be resumed with the country on lockdown.
West Ham went into the enforced break in 16th place, out of the relegation zone on goal difference with nine games to play.
Speculation has been rife over what might happen to the current campaign.
‘Growing support to cancel season’ – report
The Independent claims there is a growing support to void the season with social distancing likely to be required for months to come.
A void season would see West Ham saved from potential relegation.
It comes against the backdrop of the Belgian Juliper League announcing it has ended its season early as a result of the pandemic (Sky Sports).
That raised questions from West Ham fans about what that might mean for the Premier League.
And when West Ham fans want answers they go to Twitter and podcast personality ExWHUemployee.
Insider believes Hammers could discover relegation fate after Belgian league is ended early
The reliable insider believes West Ham could discover their fate as early as tomorrow, pending the outcome of a meeting of the Premier League top brass.
“We will find out tomorrow I think… (whether the Premier League will follow the Belgian league’s lead),” ExWHUemployee said on Twitter.
“I don’t think so personally (there is any other logical choice than to cancel the season).”
Whatever happens there is certain to be huge fallout and repercussions for clubs who still had a lot to play for in the European, relegation and promotion stakes.
Football takes back seat in real life fight for survival
West Ham may have fancied their chances of staying up.
The Hammers had started looking a decent side under David Moyes before the break.
And they had six of their last nine games at home, many against teams around them.
After a torrid season, should West Ham stay up by default it would be a blessing but at what cost.
After all football has taken a back seat because there is now a very real fight for survival facing all of us.
